PLEASANT HILL, Mo. - While tornadoes grab headlines, it's not the sole thing that can do the most damage during severe weather season.
Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Jimmy Barham, told KXCV/KRNW that they wanted to focus on wind and hail for severe weather preparedness week because hail can be life-threatening and straight line winds can pack a punch.
He adds that they've seen severe thunderstorms create winds up to 90 mph. He said during severe weather warnings, they want residents to pay attention to wind speeds and hail size.
